Lincoln Creates provides an artistic transformation for Lincoln Jazz Café!
In October 2023, the local and popular business, Lincoln Jazz Café welcomed an artistic transformation, thanks to the Lincoln Creates funding and local artist, Adam Stanley.
After weeks of painting, two stunning wall murals have been completed outside the remarkable venue, adorning the front facade and partnering wall. The artwork showcases a dynamic jazz scene, featuring a range of musicians and musical instruments illustrated in an abstract art style, reflecting the business’s cultural essence.
Whilst musicians play a key role, the overall composition conveys an essence of live music, evoking a sense of vibrant energy and rhythm. Standing tall at 8 metres and stretching 11 metres wide, this mural is a jaw-dropping street art spectacle for all to see and appreciate.
Shaun Osbourne, Proprietor of Lincoln Jazz Café, commented: “We were eager to participate in Lincoln Creates for several compelling reasons. It presented a unique opportunity for us to contribute to the local art scene and enhance the cultural fabric of Lincoln. As a small business deeply rooted in the community, we saw this as a chance to create something meaningful that would resonate with our patrons.
“The financial support provided by Lincoln Creates was instrumental for us. Being a small business with only two owners and three employees, undertaking such a significant artistic project would have been challenging without external support. Lincoln Creates not only aligned with our values of community and creativity but also offered the crucial financial backing that made the realisation of the mural possible.”
The aim for the project was to celebrate the vibrant jazz scene in Lincoln City Centre and offer a visually engaging and culturally significant piece of street art for those passing by, shining a spotlight on both Lincoln Jazz Café and the city itself. Furthermore, this project is a shining example of the dynamic synergy between artists and local businesses, showcasing local talent.
Shaun went on to say that “the mural has exceeded our expectations, becoming a visual centrepiece that not only enriches our ambience but has also become a beloved landmark in Lincoln. The collaborative process with the local artist Adam Stanley was a rewarding experience.”
“We would highly recommend other local businesses apply for Lincoln Creates. It provides an excellent avenue for businesses to connect with the local art scene, fostering a sense of community and individuality. It's a fantastic initiative that we highly recommend to fellow local establishments!"
The community project has already seen numerous locals and visitors stop and admire the artwork. Everyone is encouraged to visit this impressive piece of art, located in the city centre at the wonderful Lincoln Jazz Café, on Water Lane. Whilst there, why not pop into Lincoln’s only jazz bar and embark on a sensory journey! Their jazz-themed cocktails, curated wine selection, and unique spirits will transport you to a world of flavour and harmony. It's the perfect spot for quality time with friends and family, all while soaking up live jazz.
And that's not all – Lincoln's Jazz Café hosts masterclasses, tastings, and more in their vintage lounge, promising an evening of unforgettable experiences.
This recent art project has been made possible with the support of Lincoln Creates. Following their successful application to the programme, Lincoln Jazz Café were awarded a grant of £2,000 from the Lincoln Creates fund.
Lincoln Creates, a Lincoln BIG initiative, supports new creative art projects in Lincoln city centre – promoting a collaboration between artists and local businesses. The funds, partly from the 2021 public auction of the Lincoln Imps and a contribution from Lincoln BIG, make projects like this one come to life.
